After four years of deliberation, Cedarcrest hospital Abuja, is collaborating with a German healthcare manufacturing company to begin production of artificial limbs to help rehabilitate and better care for the disabled.
Speaking to Leadership at a one day workshop, organised to educate specialists on modern concepts in management of post polio deformities, the hospital’s Director of Surgical Services, Dr Kingsley Ekwe said Cedarcrest has partnered with Otto Bock HealthCare in Germany to set up a Prosthetics and Orthotics Plant in Nigeria.
The plant which is mainly for local manufacturing of artificial limbs will ensure quality treatment of patients with disabilities especially ones caused by Polio.
"it is still possible to live quality life, because your limbs have been cut off doesn’t mean you have to be on crutches for life which limits your options. We are hoping that in the next few months, our patients will be able to get the same quality of Prosthesis and care, like one they get from Germany…there won’t be need to also travel abroad for check up again," Ekwe said.
